From a hobby to a life changing activity
Littlemoss Bees began as a hobby to fill time in my retirement, but I havent retired yet! It soon became one of the important parts of my life after my family.

About our bees
The majority of our bees are Buckfast bees a strain of bees developed by a monk brother Adam at Buckfast Abbey in Devon
Buckfast bees are a popular hybrid strain prized for their gentle temperament, strong productivity, and adaptability. They are known for excellent honey yields, good resistance to disease, and a reduced tendency to swarm compared to many other strains. Buckfast colonies build up quickly in spring, making them ideal for reliable pollination and honey production. Their calm nature makes them especially suitable for beekeepers in populated or urban areas. However, maintaining true Buckfast traits requires careful queen sourcing, as open mating can dilute their characteristics over time, affecting consistency in behaviour and performance.

About Our honey

Littlemoss Bees honey is produced with care, respect, and simplicity at every stage. Honey is only taken from the hives when there is a surplus, ensuring the bees are always left with enough of their own stores to thrive. It is gently removed from the hive frames, then carefully extracted, filtered, and jarred without unnecessary processing. Nothing is added and nothing is taken away, preserving the natural flavour, aroma, and character of the honey. This straightforward approach ensures a pure, local product, reflecting the flowers visited by the bees and the environment they forage in.
